Dr. Jordan B Peterson was raised as a Christian conservative, and began questioning religion in his early teens. He criticizes the New Atheists (specifically Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris) for oversimplifying the philosophy of Christianity when making their critiques. Peterson often points to the symbolic underlying meaning of the archetypical ideas in religious mythology when explaining his understanding of religion. He grew up in Fairview, Alberta, Canada, a small town of 3,000 people 580 km (360 mi) northwest of Edmonton, Alberta. He resided in Montreal from 1985 to 1993, where he studied under the supervision of Robert O. Pihl and Maurice Dongier. From 1993 to 1998 he lived in Arlington, Massachusetts, while teaching and conducting research at Harvard. He has resided ...

The Women's World Cup may be breaking attendance records but one of Canada's host cities seems to be struggling to generate interest in the competition. In Montreal, just 10,000 fans attended the first two group games held in the Olympic Stadium, which has a capacity of more than 60,000. I saw Brenda blocks away sitting in front of a shopping mall in Saskatoon, Canada. She wasn't asking people for anything. She was just sitting. Panhandling is humiliating so often homeless people can't bring themselves to beg but just sit in public areas. Brenda shares about sleeping outside and sprinklers going off getting all her stuff socked. This is something we have in common that I wrote about in My First Night Homeless https://byrslf.co/my-first-night-homeless-ba7a6090a809 Brenda lost her job, couldn't get on social services, then lost her apartment. Homelessness is horrible. Brenda should not have to live like this. This is another powerful interview that not only walks about the problems but sheds light on solutions. We need more housing, jobs and health services. _________...

India is, without a doubt, one of the marvels of the 21st century from an economic standpoint, especially when viewed in the context of where it was just a century ago. In 1917, India was still part of the British Empire, same as Canada. For hundreds of years, India had been under British control, and had served as the crown jewel for the Eastern portion of the Empire in many ways, a great many of which did not, in turn, benefit the local Indians all that much. Even following the incredible success of the immortal Mahatma Gandhi’s revolutionary non-violent form of protest which in turn let to, well, a revolution, there were doubts about whether or not a nation with such a massive population and internal strife could even feed itself, let alone compete. And here we are, in 2017, when the...

Women are half the world's population. How can a community or country succeed if only half of its citizens are educated? If we continue to fund education in the developing world in the same way we have been doing for the last 20 years, it will take another 100 years before all girls complete junior high. What is the solution? An MBA graduate of Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC) Montréal and a graduate of McGill University,B. Commerce, Wanda Bedard is founder and owner since 1991 of a manufacturing business in the custom sheet metal sector. Following a number of years as a volunteer with UNICEF Canada, Wanda Bedard established 60 million girls, a public foundation, in 2006. The organization is completely volunteer run and raises funds for education projects for girls in the developing world...
The trucking industry in Canada is full of opportunities and possibilities, and the potential for career progression and growth is excellent. The industry presents a huge economic opportunity for women to seize hold of these jobs in trucking, particularly in the traditionally male-dominated occupations such as transport trailer technician and truck/transport mechanic, and most significantly as truck drivers, whether as owner-operators, or in the private or for-hire companies. All current research indicates that labour shortages resulting from an aging workforce are particularly acute for the trucking sector. Our workforce has a lower percentage of young people and we are below the national average with regards to the participation rate of women. For more information about careers in Cana...

Thomas Mulcair Outremont, QC Mr. Speaker, on December 6, 1989, l'École polytechnique in Montreal was the scene of a terrible act: 14 female engineering students were murdered because they were women and dared to aspire to have a so-called man's job. It is a tragedy that we must never forget. Despite all the struggles of the past decades, we have not eliminated the violence and inequality experienced by women. Every day, women face discrimination and cyberbullying, and have to fight for pay equity. Many groups are advocating for women's rights and self-fulfillment. I would like to point out the work of Pixelles, an organization that helps women find their place in video gaming, a new area of technology dominated by men. The best way to commemorate the Polytechnique tragedy is to firmly ...

Travel video about destination Halifax in Canada. Halifax is part of Canada's federal state of Nova Scotia. The peninsula has a population of 333,000 and it is the country's oldest British settlement, yet has managed to retain all the charm and tranquility of a small town. After Sydney, Halifax has the second largest harbor in the world and is one of the region's few harbors that is free from ice throughout the year. Lobsters, oysters, mussels and fish soup are but a few of the menu items that appear in the seafood restaurants of the Atlantic District. The Maritime Museum covers the history of the fishing industry on Canada's Atlantic coastline and also the history of navigation. Boats and small models illustrate the development of ship-building and include great seafarers and many rema...

5 Top-Rated Tourist Attractions in Nova Scotia Pretty and peaceful, Nova Scotia is Canada's second smallest province, a peninsula on the eastern edge of the Canadian mainland. But its lengthy coastline is dotted with fishing harbors, sandy beaches, and plump islands. The scenery varies greatly, from the foggy Atlantic Ocean in the southeast to the tidal salt marshes of the Bay of Fundy in the west and Gaelic highlands of Cape Breton to the north. In these maritime latitudes, Nova Scotia has a pleasantly breezy if rather damp climate. Summer is bright and sunny, but weather conditions can often cause fog, with snow in winter. Halifax is the capital and largest city. In 1604 the French, including Samuel de Champlain, settled the Annapolis Valley, founding Port-Royal, the first lasting Euro...
